Spider-Man: Far From Home Will Take Place Right After Endgame, but It'll Have to Address This Issue

Even when Spider-Man got dusted during Thanos's Snapture in Avengers: Infinity War, we knew he couldn't be gone for long. Why? Well, he had the sequel Spider-Man: Far From Home to attend to. Since the MCU movies aren't necessarily connected together in a linear fashion (cough, Captain Marvel), it can be confusing to straighten out Peter Parker's story in chronological order. Luckily, Spider-Man's timeline is straightforward for the most part, except for a potential time issue. Here's how it unfolds between Infinity War and the upcoming Far From Home.

In the big picture, Far From Home basically takes place after Avengers: Endgame. In June 2017, Sony executive Amy Pascal told Fandom that the Spider-Man sequel would "start a few minutes after Avengers 4 wraps as a story." Let's put that into the context of everything that goes down in Endgame.

Five years after the snap, the Avengers get the Infinity Stones and undo Thanos's damage. Peter returns along with a brigade of formerly dusted superheroes as Thanos wreaks havoc on Earth. Before Tony sacrifices himself by wielding the powers of the Infinity Gauntlet, he and Peter get to hug it out one last time. While Spider-Man isn't in much of Endgame, his character anchors Tony's emotional arc. Tony is Peter's mentor, and Peter's loss is the reason why Tony gets back into the superhero game.

After the battle, Peter returns to school, solemn and shell-shocked, but relieved to see his friend Ned. Though five years have gone by, no one looks older than they were in Spider-Man: Homecoming. And why would Peter go back to school with classmates in their 20s? One explanation for this would be that all of Peter's classmates (or at least the important ones) got dusted in the Snapture. We'll have to see how Far From Home deals with this.

The Spider-Man sequel's trailer maintains the franchise's light tone, but when Peter packs his bag for Europe with his friends, he notably leaves behind his suit. He's probably processing Iron Man's heartbreaking death, but likely won't have that much time to grieve - Nick Fury drags him out of his Euro vacay to deal with Mysterio in the promo. Still, we'll be here if you need another hug, Peter.
