Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind) and Daveed Diggs (Hamilton, black-ish) will star in the series set in a dystopian future in which the earth has frozen over, leaving what’s left of humanity to circle the globe in a perpetually-moving train. The adaptation will deal with “class warfare, social injustice, and the politics of survival.”
TNT’s EVP of original programming, Sarah Aubrey, said in a statement, “I’m a personal fan of Bong Joon Ho’s epic film, and jumped at the chance to honor his original vision, yet expand upon the world and characters with a diverse, award winning cast. Science fiction is the perfect genre to examine issues of race, class, gender and natural resources with thought-provoking and exciting storytelling.” Added CEO of Tomorrow Studios, Marty Adelstein (Aquarius, Prison Break, Teen Wolf), “We are excited to work together in creating a world unlike any other on television.”
Also starring in the series is Alison Wright (The Americans), Mickey Summer (American Made), Susan Park (Ghostbusters), Benjamin Haigh (The Conjuring 2), Sasha Frolova (The Interestings), Katie McGuinness (Dirty Filthy Love), Annalise Basso (Bedtime Stories), Sam Otto (Jellyfish), Roberto Urbina (Narcos), Sheila Vand (Argo), and Tony Award winner and Grammy nominee Lena Hall (Hedwig and the Angry Inch).
Fans can expect similar vision in the TNT series, with the film’s Bong Joon Ho, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun, and Dooho Choi set to executive produce alongside Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements (Good Behavior, Aquarius, Last Man Standing). The series is a co-production of Tomorrow Studios, Studio T, and CJ Entertainment.
